Masters Architectural Research Methodology / MARM module:

Architectural Research Methodology seeks to develop appropriate methodologies for architecturally engaging South African urban and social contexts. In contemporary cities constantly in change, and South African cities recovering from historic injustices, architects are faced with a range of issues for which more formal design tools (such as ‘design informants’) and more traditional visual methods (such as technical drawing) alone may be more limited. Through ‘design research’ the complexity of urban space is engaged by bringing the spatial and designerly tools and thinking of architecture to bear upon the research project, where the latter supports the former and vice versa.
